A wee bit more on Herrick, Salem, MA, Virginia.....

WHERE HENRY OF SALEM & HENRY OF VIRGINIA WERE & WHEN THEY WERE THERE!

Two years after Jedediah Herrick published the 1846 edition of the Herrick Genealogical Register, HGR, he wrote to William Perry-Herrick, who was the last lineal Herrick to own the Beaumanor estate in Leicestershire. Jedediah thanked William for his kind comments about the 1846 HGR and made the following statements about Henry of Salem and the 28 June 1653 letter that Henry John "Hen" Heyricke wrote from Virginia to his brother John Heyricke in England: "All of them circumstances which I cannot attach to Henry of Salem." "I can barely recognize our Henry and the author of that letter."

CONCLUSIONS

It is not known when Henry of Virginia and his wife Ann died, or if they died in Virginia or in England, or if they had any issue that survived them at either location. But they were married in England on the basis that they were transported to Virginia before 17 March 1641.

Further evidence that Henerie Hericke of New England was not Henry "Hen." Heyricke of Virginia are three copies of the signature of Henry of Salem:
1. That was found in Sidney Perley's book titled, "The History of Salem, Massachusetts," 1924. [The source could be item #2 or item #3 below.]
2. That was found on the Will of John Friend dated 10 November 1655.
3. That was found on the Estate Inventory of Agnes [Annis] Balch dated 06 December 1656.
The three signatures described above match each other,

but

they do not match the five copies of Henry "Hen." Heyricke of Virginia cited as follows
:
1. That was found on an Indenture dated 11 April 1622.
2. That was found on his sister's marriage settlement dated 07 November 1634.
3. That was found on a binder of Hugh Allen on a court document in York County, Virginia dated 08 March 1647/48.
4. That was found on a letter written from Virginia dated 28 June 1653.
5. That was found in Nichols' History and Antiquities of the county of Leicester, Volume III, Part I, published 1800. [The source is very likely item #4 above as it is noted there as being from 1653.]

These five signatures match each other.
